DP Reflection: I used the 5D Mark III to shoot this film because of its easy DSLR features, full frame sensor, and I was familiar with the camera, which was nice to use on my first 285 shoot. I used the Lowell light kit from the MAL, as well as natural lighting provided by the sunset. We needed to keep the sunset feeling throughout the entire shoot, so when the sun went down, we needed to adjust to using artificial light. I learned that it is difficult to make artificial lighting look natural and that it helps to use diffusion devices, especially windows. I thought I did well at framing the shots to look balanced and even. I could improve on my artificial lighting abilities by learning how to diffuse harsh shadows when in a confined space. It was fun to watch this with an audience because they showed us the way they viewed the film, which ultimately tells the filmmakers if their goal was met. I thought my work was well in focus, however, I do wish some of the rack shots I used were a little quicker and sharper. The director used most of the takes that I liked, hopefully because I set them up well. I enjoyed watching this film and being a part of it!
